Mezuzah is Hebrew for “Doorpost”

Hanging mezuzot (plural) on your doorposts fulfills one of the 613 mitzvot, or sacred obligations, prescribed in the Torah and continues a tradition handed down from generation to generation for thousands of years.

Inside the case is a tightly rolled scroll.

The content written on the scroll includes the central prayer in Judaism, the Shema, emphasizing the oneness of the divine, as well as instructions from Deuteronomy to love God wholeheartedly, teach these words to your children, and integrate them into your daily life. Additionally, it contains promises of abundance and health.                                                                         Read Full Traditional Translation

Tradition tells us to touch  our fingers to the mezuzah and offer a kiss every time we leave our home, and again when we return. This beautiful practice allows us to bring the name of G-d directly into our mouths, filling our hearts and minds with gratitude.

The mezuzah gives us a simple practice that can make us slow down, remembering the goodness of the earth and all its inhabitants. My hope is that by hanging one of my mezuzahs on your door, you will feel your               connection to nature, to an enduring tradition, to yourself and to me as the maker.
